We participate in the Brandywine Valley Girls Softball League (BVGSL). The league is comprised of teams located in southern chester county with a max drive time of 30 minutes in any direction. BVGSL ensures a fair and balanced schedule of home and away games to best serve the girls and familys of southern chester county. Check out more information below!
League Rules
Below you will can look over and read the offcial BVGSL rulebook. These guidelines cover everything from gameplay regulations to sportsmanship expectations.
Game Formats
- Spring Season: We play 14 – 16 games including playoffs within the BVGSL area on weeknights and Saturday mornings/early
afternoons.
- Fall Season: We play 10 – 12 games within the BVGSL area on Saturday mornings or
afternoons.
- Home Games: Abby Miller field (toward the back of the URA complex), 1665 W
Doe Run Rd, Kennett Square, PA 19348.
- Away Games (8U and older): Various fields within the Brandywine Valley Girls
Softball League (BVGSL) where we play other local teams in the area including
Oxford (Diamond Divas), West Chester (Wildfire), Octorara (Braves), EBYA (East
Brandywine Youth Athletics, Downingtown) and Glenmoore (GGS).
- Game Durations - Games generally last about 90 minute.
- 8U – new innings should not be started after 1-1/2 hours of
play.
- 10U - No new inning can start beyond 1-1/2 hours of play. An
inning started prior to the 1-1/2 hour time limit is to be played to its
completion, even if the time limit is exceeded.
- 12U – Any new inning starting at, or after, 1 hour and 20
minutes will automatically be the last inning with unlimited runs. Inning
will be played until completion even if it exceeds the 2 hour time limit.
- 14/16U – Any new inning starting at, or after, 1 hour and 20
minutes will automatically be the last inning with unlimited runs. Inning
will be played until completion even if it exceeds the 2 hour time limit.

Age brackets
- Determined by your players age as of January 1st of the current year.
- Players are allowed to “play up” only at the discretion of the softball
commissioner and coaches.
Equipment
For those that are new to the game, your player will need:
- Your player will need a glove, USA or ASA certified bat, rubber cleats,
black softball pants, softball fielding mask, batting helmet with face guard.
- URA Softball will provide you with game uniforms, socks and a belt.
Key Dates
- Spring - Practices begin in late March with games running from early April until June with playoffs.
- Fall - Practices being in early September with games running from mid September until late October.

- We practice one to two (depending on age bracket) times per week on
weekday evenings for 90 minutes to 2 hours (e.g. 5:30 – 7:30 pm).
- Your coach will provide a practice schedule prior to the start of the
season.

Friend Requests
- Although we would love to offer that friends can play together on the
same team, given the immense interest in URA softball, we are not able
to accommodate requests for certain friends to play on the same team after 8u.
- We are all one big happy URA family and strive to ensure that the teams
are balanced for competitive purposes.
